The IRIS application is intended for keeping record of patients' visits and performed examinations. It includes an extensive database, enabling you to collect all examination results and diagnoses (ICD 10 and ICD 9 codes), view medical history, easily record and archive images (e.g. from a slit lamp) and digital video sequences (e.g. from an operation microscope).
Moreover, the IRIS application enables the user to make planimetric measurements, print and burn visit reports on CDs or DVDs, search the database according to select criteria. Medical data collected in the program may as well be used in scientific presentations and publications.
Modern programming solutions allow the user not only to collect textual information, but also images and video sequences. The program consists of a descriptive part (patient records, visits list and examination forms) as well as image and video sequence recording module.
The IRIS application includes a collection of detailed ophthalmologic examination forms, for example:

Moreover, the program enables describing diagnoses and procedures with accordance to ICD-10 and ICD-9 codes, as well as the access to a patient's medical history, writing out and printing prescriptions, recommendations and referral forms.
IRIS can record and save images from any diagnostic device equipped with a standard video output (GDX, tonometer, autorefractometer) or equipped with a viewing head with a video camera / digital camera (e.g. slit lamp, microscope, fundus camera).
The program is equipped with a convenient tool, by means of which one can estimate the distance, area or circumference of given objects. After entering an image scale, the program will generate the results in metric units.
The inbuilt video recorder allows for saving digital videos on a computer's hard drive (from analogue as well as digital sources), for example to document a surgery or for training purposes.
IRIS automatically archives data on select data storage device, thus preventing data loss. This helps to avoid insufficient disc space difficulties and allows the user to store the results of their work on external data storage devices.
All collected data (including images and examination results) may be saved in an electronic version or printed out as clear reports - and then passed on to the patient.
Recording examination descriptions, images or video sequences for a select visit on CDs or DVDs enables passing the data on to the patient.
The extended version the IRIS application enables reading alphanumeric data and images from medical devices.
